Help Conserve 400 acres on Mt. Monadnock

We have an opportunity to conserve nearly 400 acres of land adjacent to other conserved lands on Mt. Monadnock! These parcels protect access to several important hiking trails up the mountain and ski trails in Monadnock State Park, and they preserve the beautiful landscape of this iconic mountain.

This initiative will add to the 6,500 acres (see slide show) currently conserved on Mt. Monadnock and nearby Gap Mountain. We’ve raised over $370,000 toward our goal of $760,000, but we need your help to raise the remaining $390,000 needed by March 20, 2012 – or the land will be placed on the open market for sale and possible development!

Mt. Monadnock in southwestern New Hampshire is the most-climbed mountain in the Northern Hemisphere – and possibly the world (after an auto road was completed on Mt. Fuji)!  It’s a moderate hike – it has SPECTACULAR views – and the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, with the surrounding communities, has worked since 1915 to protect all the land on and around the mountain – so that the public can continue to have access for recreation, inspiration, and enjoyment of wildlife.

The Forest Society is a private, non-profit land trust and forestry organization established in 1901. It currently holds more than 750 conservation easements statewide permanently protecting more than 100,000 acres of New Hampshire’s landscapes. The Forest Society also owns 171 forest reservations constituting more than 50,000 acres in 95 New Hampshire communities.
